Disney, RC, Norwegian, & Carnival Cruise Parking: Port Canaveral Tips
Three Tips for Disney, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, & Carnival Cruise Parking: Port Canaveral
Cruises are one of the more expensive vacation options, so we’re always looking for ways to save you money and guide your journey. That’s why, this month, we’re bringing you another set of tips! Specifically, we’re focusing on Disney, RC, Norwegian, and Carnival cruise parking in Port Canaveral. What are some of the benefits of driving to your cruise port? Will it be a good fit for your family? Ports like Port Canaveral offer great incentives for driving instead of flying. Here are just a few!
1. Road Trip!
Some of my best experiences as a kid were traveling across the country with my parents. Add a day or two to your vacation and spend some time seeing the countryside in the car! This is especially good for kids. If you’re driving more than a few hours, this can help take the stress off the drive. You can stop to eat, walk around, visit a park – the freedom to stop and check out the sights can turn a boring, anxiety-filled journey into something fun that the family will remember for decades. Talk to the family and see if a road trip might be fun for you all.
Put the road trip at the beginning and/or end of the journey. It works for both parts! But if you aren’t so sure about spending all that time on the road, that’s okay. You can still spend time outside the cruise, and we have a great suggestion for an extra day of vacation time.
2. Visit the Port
Ports aren’t just for sailing and shipping. There’s plenty more to do at a cruise port like Port Canaveral. Before you hop on your cruise ship, you might want to spend a day in Cocoa Beach. Or, spend a day winding down after the cruise. You’ll find several options that are great for passing the time! When you drive, you’ll have the ability to spend time away from the port without paying for taxis or independent drivers. Having a vehicle gives your group far more versatility than a flight.
So, what can you do in Port Canaveral and Cocoa Beach? An obvious answer is the beach! We have miles of beautiful waters, surf, and sand to enjoy. There are plenty of parks to go to nearby, and most have a free, secure parking area. There are also several companies on the beach that do mini golf, arcade games, and other exciting activities. I highly recommend the aerial adventures park, the escape rooms, or the Dinosaur Store. All of these are good for kids and adults, so the whole family can be involved!
Be sure to use your car to visit Port Canaveral itself. Besides the cruise terminal and cruise line, Port Canaveral has great food and beautiful sights, including Jetty Park. Enjoy an ice cream cone at the dock and watch the seagulls and ships sail out! There’s so much to see at the port and surrounding areas that you might like coming back for a whole vacation dedicated to seeing Brevard!
3. Save Money!
Planned right, a car trip can save you crazy amounts of money. Flights are expensive, especially when you have to get from the airport to the hotel or cruise ship. The biggest and mot frequently used airport near Port Canaveral is still more than an hour’s drive away. Shuttles and taxis will cost you. Plus, flights can be delayed or cancelled. Missing a flight can mean missing your whole cruise! Not to mention problems with baggage.
Overall, I’ve never liked flying to my cruises. If it’s not too far away, I’ll always try to drive. Driving also allows me the ability to save on gas and the cruise parking rate. The same can be done with Port Canaveral! Use an off-site parking lot to park your car and save tons in parking costs. We even wrote a post to help with that! But since you might not want to read a whole other article, here are some mini-tips for your Disney/Royal Caribbean/Norwegian/Carnival cruise parking Port Canaveral trip.
- Free Shuttles! Always go with a company that offers free, air conditioned shuttles. There’s no reason to pay more than a port fee for a complimentary shuttle service to the cruise terminal.
- Secure Parking! A fence and security cameras will help protect your car even better than the port’s security, 24 hours a day.
- Seasonal Parking! Plan ahead and take advantage of those choice, low-cost off-season prices. You’ll thank me later.
